New Thrones Project

Greetings unto the Populace of Cynagua,

The Principality of Cynagua has commissioned new thrones to be built for our royalty. Below is the selected bid submission upon which the thrones will be based. There were a couple of changes made to the initial design so the bid documentation below should be considered concept drawings, not complete plans. There is also a photo folder where you can see the progress being made on the project.

Selected Bid

DESIGN: The thrones are designed in a 15th century gothic style, based on images of period thrones of state and of gothic tracery and linenfold panels used on furniture around this time. The design should provide a feel of stylistic continuity with the West Kingdom Thrones without being as visually dominating. The overall height is 52 inches, with a width of 24 inches and a seat height of 19 inches.

In gothic carving, there are numerous examples of armorial shields either included in the design, or literally superimposed over a section of tracery of foliage. This type of element caught my eye, and I think it would add another level of interest to the design. My research did not turn up any arms registered to the Prince and Princess of Cynagua; just for the Principaity itself so I am planning to use that on both shields. These should be located right at or just above the shoulders of most average height people seated in the thrones. Obviously, the shape of the shield itself can be changed. I would recommend staying away from the ubiquitous heater shield shape.
