Brewers Guild

At all Cynaguan Coronets and camping-style Investitures, the Brewers Guild hosts a meeting and tasting where brewers are encouraged to bring samples of what they're brewing and share hints, recipes, and critiques. The meeting is open to all, although attendees must be of legal age to taste the beverages. The meetings are usually held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (subject to change, so check at the A&S tent to verify the day and time).

*Please note that research papers do not count towards the annual A&S Championship (Lumen Cynagua)

Copper Spoon Competitions: Foods from Northern Europe. These would include cuisine from Germany, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.

How Do I Enter a Competition?

This is easy! Look over the topics for upcoming competitions. Choose something that is interesting to you. Next, do a little research (no, not the scary kind). Maybe do some web searching or stop at the library (if you can't find any info, ask us and we'll try to help you!). Learn how things were done in period. Armed with that knowledge, create a project. Keep track of what you are doing differently and why (for example, you probably wouldn't choose to use a compound we now know is poisonous).

One of the most frequently asked questions is: do I need documentation? The answer is no, it is not required. HOWEVER, it carries a significant number of points in your score and it really helps the judges understand what (and why) you did. It helps all of us learn more about that topic. And, it is easy! Especially if you did a little research and kept track of what you did differently.

A good format for the documentation is:

Keep it short, 1-3 pages is usually sufficient and about all the time judges have to read through it. Don't put your name on it; you will be assigned an entry number as these are anonymous entries when they are presented to the judges.

So now that we are through the big question of documentation, on the Saturday of the event, look for the A&S Sunshade (or table at indoor venues) and bring your item(s) to us by 12 Noon. You can have someone else bring it for you, but make sure they have your full name. Check back in later in the afternoon to pick up your entries. Winners are generally announced in evening court. Don't hesitate to ask either of us for help!

Displays:

We always have table space and invite members of the Populace to display their arts & science projects, either completed or in process. This helps inspire others and demonstrates the talent that is Cynagua!

Judging:

Do you see a competition that you would like to judge? Let us know! We always need folks with expertise, folks with a little knowledge and folks with no knowledge on the topic are welcome to help while they learn more about it! It's fun, easy, and you get to see first-hand the skills of our populace.

A&S Champion: The Lumen Cynagua:

There is an annual A&S Championship competition that is only open to Cynaguans. The competition begins with Spring Coronet and concludes with Winter Investiture; the award is then presented at the following Spring Coronet. There are 8 arts and sciences competitions held throughout this year-long period. A competitor must enter a minimum of four of these to be eligible. Multiple items may be entered in each category, however, only the highest score will count towards the Championship overall score. The A&S champion is known as the "Lumen Cynagua," representing the light of art and learning in the Principality. The Champion's responsibility is to encourage participation in and an appreciation of the arts and sciences in Cynagua.

Congratulations to meistara Vigdis vestfirzka, our newest Champion!
